Re: like-minded people I love when my statuses get a lot of attention and praise. Makes my ego feel all nice and warm inside. I love when my blog posts are featured and shared. Reminds my ego that there are other people who think the way I do. I love when people tell me how awesome they think I am. Nudges me to continue serving as I feel validated. Sometimes I get lost in it. ESPECIALLY because Im surrounded at large by people who think about the same stuff I do in a really similar way. They make it easy on me. They write things like: I think you just blew my mind. And... Yep, you did just blow my mind. My ego has a freaking field day with stuff like that. I click Like, say Thank You, and write another post, starting the cycle all over again. But seriously. Thank you. I mean it. Yet, therein lies the issue. (Did I use therein correctly?) Like-minded people telling me whats good. Did I actually learn anything? Am I even right? Or did someone who thinks the same way I do just come by and say, Glad you and I are on the same page. Ive been surrounded by so many new people this past year that in some aspects of my life, Ive alienated myself. I created a story that it was difficult to connect. But if that was true, then what the hell is the point of this work anyway? Its certainly not to separate and disconnect. Im reminded of this truth when I spend time with people who arent committed to personal development work. And when I go unchecked... I want them to see what I see. I want them to experience coaching. I want them to stop being a victim of their lives. Why? The ugly truth is that I want to feel more comfortable in their presence. I want to help them be a person I can easily connect with. Being surrounded by like-minded people is what ultimately serves a different, more open perspective. But if we actively disengage from everyone else, then weve missed the entire point.
