Re. the awards nights, thanks to those who nominated me for First Team Supporter of the Year. To be honest, I could not keep up my guise as an anonymous, independent match day reporter for this Facebook page as I only missed 1 game for the Men’s first team (trip to the Tron) and 1 and 9/10th of a game for the Women’s team (‘home’ game vs Glenfield and the away cup tie at Metro). The Women’s team were onto me from the get go with Katie Bennett giving me a hand written squad list at the beginning of last season. Her support helped launch my Bay Olympic page. On the Men’s side, it was Rick DeVries who first introduced himself to me. I kind of stood out as I was one of the few supporters who made it to Manurewa as it was an awful day, weather wise. I then got to meet some of the other long term supporters over the season. I suppose the only sector left would be other football media people, but I am sure that over time even this could change. Anyway, I am honoured to receive the award. I do respect some of the past winners, including these people that I have met this season: 1991 – the Old Boys (you can still spot these lads at the Men’s first team games on the side line in their black club jackets – is Linda an honorary Old Boy?) 2004 – McMillan family (one of whom is a co-admin person on this page) 2005 – R DeVries (outgoing chairperson – he will be missed and you can see why he has got us so many grants – the guy is always smiling and has a go ahead, optimistic attitude) 2007 – R Leakey (along with the Woodhams, Tony, Linda and me, one from the Green Bay days – I played the odd game as a kid with his son, Andrew) 2012 - Cheer leaders (the fab ladies including Debbie – I recall them being the highlight during our Chatham Cup loss last season, away to 3 Kings) I also like to thank those who have appreciated this Facebook page. My hope is that this page reaches as many people as possible in the club, and that this audience respond with contributions to the page. Thankfully, my work situation allowed me to attend as many games as I did. Free weekends and a wage to help fund my trips from Papakura in the South to Stanmore Bay in the North. It is up in the air as to whether I could repeat this feat next season as my current work contract is about to expire. Hopefully, this will be resolved shortly, but I may end up on a new contract which includes missing out on the odd weekend. So, do not be surprised if I ask for another co Admin person to try to cover as many of the Men’s and Women’s first team games as possible. At the very least, I would hope to visit some new grounds….maybe the Waikato following the Men’s first team or Whangarei of North Force play the Women’s team? Roll on 2014…. [Admin-SWGB]
