Read carefully this apologia piece from the NYT - dated Sept 11, 2014. It is what political consultants and campaign consultants call a non-denial denial. In other words, the Times reporter says, Thats CWAZY!!!! and the McCain team is not amused but there is no factual refutation of the issues raised. I also find it notable that the Times asserts that some images of McCain online meeting with anti-Syrian rebels have been doctored -- which I am quite willing to believe, as visual verification is an issue for images online always -- but the reporter gives no basis for the Times having proven this, just as, when we asked them about how they had verified the authenticity of the ISIS videos we were confirming, they said we verified them but gave no indication as to how. Unless things have changed when I was last hanging around the New York Times building, it does not have an independent video or image verification lab.
