Read how I self-interview myself: PART TWO - Q4: What do you find to be the hardest challenge in writing a book? A: This is a very easy question and yet it has to be answered in a few parts. Firstly, the hardest part is starting. Weve all been there, who hasnt created a great idea in their head? The issue begins when you have to put it into action. The first page(s) I think is where you find many people struggle. Secondly, you need to have a direction/plan. Do not wing it, because you will struggle even more. Flesh out the idea and story in your head, and I would advise you to put them into dot point for references. If you have no direction, it is very hard to go anywhere. This leads us to the third answer. Thirdly, you need to motivate yourself. You need to find a way to continue and strive to be the best that you can be. Never force yourself into writing something (or any career) because you get frustrated at the situation and with yourself. As a teacher, my motivation comes from my students. As a soon-to-be-Author, I gather my motivation from my love of Horror/Fantasy movies, comics, books, music and from myself. Q5: How do you face criticism or have you dealt with criticism? A: I have not dealt with criticism (as yet, but I prepared). Most of the feedbacks I have received have been overly positive. Though you could argue, those who read some sample chapters are my friends. I have stated (and my friends know this), I believe you need criticism in your life to improve yourself. I am not talking about negative putdowns I am talking about constructive criticism. If someone tells you they didnt get your chapter/story, dont get angry. You should explain to them what you were aiming for (in case they were confused) and if they still didnt see that in the chapter, you should say to yourself I need to word it better to convey my message. Q6: Do you care if your book never becomes successful? Or even turns out to be a complete failure? A: In all honesty, I do not measure success is big sales or movie deals. Once it is published, I have succeeded. I can sit back and say to people that I was able to write a book. I was able to accomplish something, so how can that ever be a failure? There is an internal struggle in everyone to try to reach their goals. When you have achieved your dream, you can proudly sit on your throne and claim victor over your internal enemies. I would love the book to be big, I wont deny that. I would love it to be picked up and made into a movie, television series, comic or anything else I could do with the material.
