Reading Yelp reviews of some of the local coffee shops produced a few interesting observations, especially if you know these places yourself and have already formed your own opinion of them. There is one place here in Northeast that exists primarily as a hangout for people at, shall we say, the extreme left of the political spectrum. None of the reviewers apparently realized this fact; they simply commented that the couches seemed to have been obtained from a demolished frat house and that the general odor was reminiscent of cat pee and old hockey bags. One reviewer says she placed her drink order at this place, only to have the barista exclaim, Why would you want THAT?? Its going to taste horrible! At the other end of the scale is a place in Uptown which is infamous for its hipster attitude and poor service. I probably should not have been surprised when one reviewer went to this place and was told that the wi-fi password was not you roffice. Of course, I was also happy to note that my own favorite coffee shop got almost unanimous rave reviews, its only criticisms being for the undeniable fact that the decor is a little on the minimalist side. This was good because any further criticism would have forced me to challenge the reviewer to a duel; and as I get older I find that the prospect of being ANYWHERE at dawn simply lacks much of its former appeal.
