Reading comments about Question Time this week on facebook, I dont care if people like Russell Brand or they dont. I used to think he was a dick, now I think hes alright. But the reason he speaks about the super rich and city bankers is because everyone has lost sight of why were in the mess were living through and have turned their blame to immigrants. People didnt lose their jobs because of immigration. People havent had their pay frozen because of immigration. Cuts havent been made to the NHS, schools and vital services because of immigration. The government didnt give away £billions to financial institutions because of immigration. All this happened because city bankers gambled away your money - money in savings accounts, investment funds and pension pots - on toxic loans and they lost the fecking lot. The government paid it all back, with your money. The city bankers didnt lose their jobs, regular people did. The city bankers didnt take wage cuts (there has now been more money paid out in bankers bonuses, not regular wages, bonuses, than the government paid out to prop up the industry) regular people did. Services that regular people rely on have been cut. Earlier this week a woman where my wife works suffered a severe allergic reaction to some new medication she was prescribed. My wife phoned for an ambulance, a paramedic turned up, but no ambulance because none were available. This, according to the paramedic, was now the norm. This hasnt happened because of immigration, this has happened because the city bankers lost the nations money and they were then given it all back, leaving us with nowt. All that has gone on bonuses. Russell Brand doesnt address the immigration issue because that is not the issue that needs addressing. What needs addressing is why were really in this shitey mess, but no one will because all the main political parties work for the city and big business. Thats who their friends are, thats who they grew up with and this is what you get when were ruled over by a privately educated political elite instead of normal people who understand normal issues. Theyve shifted the blame from the bankers to the immigrants, played on peoples fears and the majority have lapped it up. Russell Brand may be a bit of a nob, but thank christ someone is keeping the real reason were all fecked in the news because without him it could have been forgotten about completely.
