"From a broader theological perspective, I feel that independence, personal freedom, self-reliance and caring for one another – out of our own free will – are the manifestations of goodness, of light, of positivity. I think that these values are (and always have been) constantly besieged by subjugation, centralized power, and the desire to force the rest of the world towards your vision of how things should be. Side-note: It has always amazed me how politicians are endowed with this infinite sense of their own ability to determine “what is best” for all of us. Because they were elected to perform certain administrative functions for our individual tribes, they suddenly perceive themselves as being a fount of social engineering knowledge. Do they attend some special school where they are trained in “Understanding What People Really Need”, or does the fact that their fellow men elected them to office seem to grace them with a higher level of arrogance which they feel obliged to unleash on us in the form of more laws, more regulations and less freedom? Methinks the latter… The people who overtly take away our freedoms do not do so (I believe) maliciously – they do it because they are driven to do it by the million little inactions on our part – almost as if they were just acting out the script of some giant play being written by our own collective apathies. There is no conspiracy – we drive the events which shape our destiny, which we then perceive as unacceptable; we are the root of our problems. Measure for measure, just as we are the source of our collective goodness, we are the source of evil. All of us." This is just an excerpt --- go read the entire essay! Really good! Good perspective!
