Really great video to build awareness on Depression, whether - TopicsExpress

Really great video to build awareness on Depression, whether clinical or situational it can be an absolutely terrifying, limiting, disabling and debilitating ailment beyond a persons control. There should be no discrimination against someone who is coping with such a devastating illness whether long term or short term due to unfortunate circumstances. Nobody is actually immune and at some stage in someones life they may experience it, whether it is mild or dangerously severe. You never know if something may happen to you one day that can push you over the edge regardless of how balanced, normal, knowledgeable and wise you are with the greatest common sense, reliability and responsibility. No matter how hard working, intelligent and God fearing you are with amazing values who always makes wholesome decisions and choices. This is something one cannot control regardless of how hard they try, it is totally out of their hands when incapacitating and severe, controlling their mood, abilities, functioning and thinking. It can be extremely devastating and horrifying leaving the person inadequate, embarrassed, feeling inferior and incapable, almost paralysed in body and mind to the point they can not do a thing but just lay there wanting to die. Regardless of how positive a person is and how strong ones faith is, this is like a demon that takes over. Forget the fact that you know who you are and how logical and wise you have always been and how you have acted all your life. Always knowing your boundaries and keeping yourself in check, this can be relentless consuming you like flames and overpowering you, taking you to the darkest place where you feel their is no escape and may never see the end of the tunnel. Your reasoning and understanding can be taken away through no fault of your own. You are imprisoned in your own body and mind. Why is it people understand common health issues such as a cold or back pain but when it comes to this, there seems to be a taboo and lack of knowledge or understanding. Often people think of it as a weakness but it is really a sign of a strong person who can endure such hell and still persevere, never giving up even in their darkest hour. Unless one has experienced this or know someone close who has, it is not something one can just switch off or simply Pull themselves together then they may have no real understanding or concept. Lets not label people as they are not the illness that has come upon them, it does NOT define them. It can happen to you at any stage in your life so do not judge, criticise or dismiss someone. It can be as a result of devastating news, a trauma/tragic situation or bad treatment. Think of how you treat others and what you put them through as this can have a really detrimental effect on ones life, causing them to plummet down. We are responsible for our actions and how we treat people. This is a very real condition and if not taken seriously, giving the support and love that one needs we do not know what the consequences could be. At this time I am thinking of Robin Williams who many of us had no idea what he was going through, he fought through this battle alone I imagine but no one would know due to the mask he may have put on. A face may be smiling but inside they may be crying and dying, lets be more aware of those around us and reach out to those who suffer in silence.
