Recap from the weekend - Battle of the Breaking Dojos 2 Thank you everyone that came, supported, and competed. First off I changed the name of Battle of the Breaking Dojos because there already exists a martial arts tournaments called Battle of the Dojos so I had to flip it to make it more relative. Secondly, thank your for my support staff and came and helped out. You guys played a BIG role. Renato Roldan first off for the venue and having his peeps come through. Ono Iman big big big props for the paperwork, helped with the door, money, and was on no sleep kind of like me. Cindy for helping with stage management (FB wont let me tag you.) Micah Jefferson and Djaun Maclin for coming early and helping set up and break down. Micah even judged all the battles. Those two guys are rare in the bboy world. Rest of my Phaze II guys Peter Elliott, Gino Paul Mendoza Capio, Xander, for coming and helping out with registration and vending. Much love to you guys. Shot outs to Bgirl Loki for being consistent and Gabe for running out to get us change. Marcus Omega J Salinas for filling in for judging Saturday and doing whatever to make it there. To my DJs Erik E Double the most professional man in business. Shows up an hour early and is ready to leave 30 min early. Ronald Cabrera, Brian Johnson, Moz Definite, Julio Illanoiz Calderon for laying down the tracks. Especially in making sure the music was clean for the parents and children!! To my hosts Raymond Rivera, Wayne Cauthen, and Cj Williams for keeping the flow and energy going. Each of you guys brought a different flavor and keep the entertainment running smoothly. Big shot out my little daughter Eleanor, for helping set up, breaking down, competing, and sticking around while daddy works. She also competed too. She was still tired when Sunday morning came and I had to wake her up and almost throw her on my shoulder so we can head to the park jam but shes a trooper. She crashed out immediately on the ride to her mommies. To all the parents of the schools that drove their kids down, especially from out of town. Thank you for supporting your child and letting them come be a part of this culture. From a person that went to college and got into entrepreneurship from this dance, I know that the confidence, networking skills, and the rest of the soft skills Ive learned from it will carry on to build a stronger character. My parents hated me dancing and they really hated it when I started teaching my younger sisters but it didnt stop me. Support and love is the best thing any child can get in this life growing up. To all my instructors that have decided to teach this dance to the next generation. Putting time aside, creating a class, communicating with parents, and mentoring kids requires special individuals. Alex Hanesakda, Kevin Hongmanivanh, Breezy, Keegan Seoul Loye, Maciek Smolak, Abdullah Brito, James Alexander, Jonathan Mayuga, and Roldare. Also a big shot out to Alina Kruk-Velazquez from ABC Dance Academy for helping out! Special thank you everyone. Special shout outs to my Latin Street kids and parents. Its hard for me to coach them during the jam and manage it at the same time so thats why this year I had different hosts. Its a big step because my students are only 1 year or less into the game minus Eleanor and Mateo. Thank you for showing up and enjoying the jam Raquel Godinez. Though they may feel they might now have won its a great learning and humbling experience. All breakers lose a bunch of times before winning. Its about dedication and heart. There was nothing more enjoyable than watching the determination of the kids competing against one another, watching them work as a team, and also the enjoyment of them meeting other kids while giving each other props. There will be another one in the future. I look forward to doing this again to make it bigger and better for all schools and parents. I already have goals of creating different divisions based on age and experience but that depends on how many crews join. Big thank you to everyone that has been a part of history.
