Recreations Assistant position now available: The Recreation Assistant assists the Recreation Director to provide group and individual activities for the residents. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied work schedule that may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. JOB CLASSIFICATION Assistant SUPERVISION Supervised by: Recreation Director JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education: Completion of high school or above is preferred. Personal Skills and Traits Desired: • Good verbal and written communication skills • Pleasant personality. • Respect for authority and also resident wellbeing. • Able to work independently and follow scheduled plans. • Respect for the rights of the residents including the right to privacy and the right to make choices. • Maintains composure and ability to handle stressful situations. • Open mind on being resourceful with supplies. Recreation Assistant Assigned Tasks 1. Assist with activities as directed by the Recreation Director. • Set-up and clean-up of programs • Encourage participation • Help plan, implement and publicize for events. • Assist residents when needed during programs • Notify Recreation Director of resident behaviors which may indicate problems. Individual • Interact appropriately and effectively in one to one activities according to the residents strengths and limitations. • Be aware of individual cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial abilities. 2. Assist in scheduled activities that are located in the surrounding communities 3. Help maintain a pleasant and cheerful environment. 4. Assist with other tasks as directed by the Activity Director. • Clerical Duties • Seasonal or Themed Bulletin Boards • Keep activity closets organized. • Preparation of posters, flyers, and other advertisements. 6. Participate in and promote staff participation in Appleridge activities. 7. Attend mandatory Appleridge inservices. 8. Attend activity department inservices or workshops as directed by the Recreation Director. 9. Continue the activity program in the absence of the Recreation Director. 10. Ability and understanding of transportation of residents into the community for events and outings.
