Reflections on ALL SAINTS SUNDAY, November 3, 2013 As I look back to Sunday’s worship experience at Dayspring UMC, I am truly amazed at the work of the Holy Spirit! This past week was met with heart break as my family laid to rest my niece, Alayna Joy who was still born at 21 weeks. Last Friday, during the memorial service, I was reminded of the words of Jesus who said, “Let the children come to me…” With arms wide open, Alayna Joy, has been embraced by a God who gave her the gift of only knowing joy. Heartbreaking for us here on earth, I’m so thankful that she is now in a place where joy abounds. Then on Sunday, the church gathered to celebrate the resurrection of Christ and those who died this past year who are now celebrating their resurrection IN Christ, in Heaven. It was a bitter sweet Sunday as the church family gathered to morn our loss and heaven’s gain. As each name was read, and the bell was tolled, I assisted families to light a candle in memory of their loved ones. As each family and friend came to the communion altar to light a candle, tears flooded their eyes. The congregation was asked to stand for those who were touched directly by the person’s life. Then the name of our beloved pastor was named. In silence, the entire congregation, in unison, stood proudly proclaiming the incredible testimony of the Rev. Dr. Honorable, Jane Tews. Those who came forward to light her candle, had heartfelt tears and a great sense of loss in their eyes. Jane was our leader, friend, sister, daughter and mentor to all. With deep sadness, the candle was lit and all I could think of was, “Let the children come…” Her battle with cancer was over. All she would ever know now is joy and be embraced in the loving arms of Jesus. As a child, I grew up singing a hymn with lyrics that had no meaning until now. “O spread the tidings round, wherever man is found, Where ever human hearts, and human woes abound. Let every Christian tongue, proclaim the joyful sound:The Comforter has come.” I’m so thankful to know that we are not alone on this journey because the Comforter has come. Thanks be to God! youtube/watch?v=MU98khZAz2g
