Regina and Area Potters’ Guild presents: Jeffrey Taylor – Hakeme Extreme Saturday, September 6, 2014, 9:30AM to 4:30PM Where: New School Arts Duval, Saskatchewan Roughriders Hakeme – Ancient Japanese pottery origin, a decoration technique in which a stiff brush is used to apply slip directly to the surface of a pot. Jeffreys pottery has developed through a pursuit of the expression of form and surface with function. He uses a variety of slip clay combinations to enrich the surface of the functional forms. The slip covered surface is altered using brushes, combs, flexible ribs, veterinary syringes, handmade wooden tools, stamps, and found objects. While generally working in series, Jeffrey does not strive to duplicate exact surface decoration. Each piece is unique yet grouped easily into sets if desired. In all the variety of forms he insists on a well-functioning end product. This is especially true of his teapots which minimize dripping and have lids that do not fall out when pouring with one hand. Recent explorations have included the addition of branches and antlers as handles to create truly one of a kind pieces. He is joined by his wife Nadia in many aspects of production and sales. His work can be found on his website: newschoolarts and you can follow life in the studio on Instagram @Duvalarts and Facebook https://facebook/newschoolarts Jeff will demonstrate: • Throwing and altering forms; Mugs, Large Bowls, Butter Dishes, Teapots parts and construction • Later stage decoration on leather hard pieces • Slip decoration and the tools • Glazing and firing (not a large focus) • Process of exploration Fees: $75 for members, $95 for non-members (note that annual membership is only $20.00) Lunch Details to follow Registration Deadline: August 25, 2014 Registration: NAME_______________________________________________ ADDRESS____________________________________________ Postal Code ______________ TELEPHONE NUMBER__________________________________ E-MAIL ADDRESS______________________________________ Cheque enclosed (please X): _______RAPG member $75.00 _______Non-member $95.00.
