Relatively quiet start to this week with plenty of sunny spells - TopicsExpress

Relatively quiet start to this week with plenty of sunny spells and showers, some wintry, becoming fewer and farther between and confined to north western parts. The rest of the week brings spells of rain, strong winds, showers (Wintry in the north, mostly but not entirely over high ground), frosts and icy stretches. Winds strong enough to cause some disruption, mainly across exposed northern areas but perhaps further south for a time later in the week. Snow mostly to high ground in the north, although some sleet/wet snow is possible to lower levels and bit further south in the heaviest showers. Friday brings the small risk of some rain turning to sleet and wet snow on its northern edge across some central and southern parts of the UK, but this is only a low risk currently and would likely be very brief with most wintriness over high ground. Other than brief bits and pieces of wintriness, there isnt much sign of significant, widespread snowfall away from northern high ground during the next week or so. As we head toward the second half of December there are small signs of a changed to more blocked conditions that may lead to an increased chance of more significant cold, and therefore an increased risk of more widespread and more significant snowfall. However, there are a lot of ifs and buts involved so that is only potential for now. Plenty going on, so please do check back for updates.
