Religion as such has become a joke. When it comes to religion - TopicsExpress

Religion as such has become a joke. When it comes to religion the worlds analysis of religion has also become a joke. Things are seen in terms of black and white. Either, religion is taken up in dogmatic narrowminded non-critical bigoted ways or religion is taken up as an identity where one does not have to believe the respective doctrine and methodology of the religion. Obviously there is something perversely wrong with both perspectives. Both have disproportions. The former has no critical sense of proportion, while the latter is a pathetic identity that does not accept that true identity is in belief and practice and not one that is inherited from ones parents. Its obvious that Bill Liar with his ideological perspective proposes that one hold onto identity and leave the doctrine and methodology aside-- which in Sri Lankas case has already happened--- we find so many Sri Lankan buddhists who reject parts of buddhas doctrine only to accept the parts that they like only to be left with a pathetic empty identity that is baseless. In the above mentioned is the real insight behind the ethnocentric religious tensions. The real issue is a bunch of individuals of an ethnicity from the lower middle social class and bellow suffer from an inferiority complex, a false sense of privilege, and outright jealousy fueled by political demagogues and consequently wish to bring about injustice and try to justify injustice with the use of religion as a vehicle, in this case its buddhism which is used as a vehicle. Lets face it. Sri Lanka is not an island of saints. Its an island that has been historically an agricultural country with agricultural concerns with a particular caste that dominates till today. Such an indigenous caste, an agricultural caste. is known for concerns over resources and not real intellectual spiritual concerns. Thus, we have to admit the fact that the issue is not religion. The issue is political. The issue is one of resources. Religion is only being used as a vehicle for justification for many an injustice. This issue is true for all religions in our contemporary times.
