Remember when you took long vacations in the car growing up? When you actually got out and saw some different parts of the country by car? We are headed to Lake of the Ozarks for a family reunion this summer. My dad and his siblings grew up in Mexico, MO (about an hour west of St. Louis) and my cousins all decided theyd like to have the reunion near there. Its a good 2 days drive from PTC, so Id like to plan a side trip (or two) on the way over (and/or back) to make it worth our while. Our kids have never seen anything other than the Eastern Seaboard (and a weekend in Dallas, TX), so I want them to experience a little bit more of the U.S. Of course, its a huge country and we are somewhat limited in this case as to what we can see. It really needs to be something we can get to within a day on our way to/from St. Louis. Probably something in Missouri, southern Illinios, Kentucky, or Tennessee. Probably not a theme park or big city... looking for things that every American should experience... any ideas? And go...
