Rep. Steve Southerland (R, FL) is pushing for a 3.8 million person - TopicsExpress

Rep. Steve Southerland (R, FL) is pushing for a 3.8 million person cut from food stamps and adding work or volunteer hour requirements in the middle of a weak recovery where many people cannot find work, and where many poor people are already working in low wage jobs. His justification is that it will save the government money and possibly help the economy. Unfortunately for him, the Congressional Budget Office calculated that every $1 spent in food stamps equates to $2.10 of positive economic impact. Removing these people from food stamps would not only increase hunger problems in the country, but weaken the recovery further. motherjones/mojo/2013/10/food-stamps-farm-bill-steve-southerland pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/the-daily-need/another-big-problem-with-newt-gingrichs-food-stamp-claim/13003/ nbcpolitics.nbcnews/_news/2011/12/22/9636593-boehner-announces-deal-with-reid-on-end-to-payroll-tax-impasse
