Report on Northwest Big Time Hoops Spring Challenge Scout Gerry Frietas The Northwest Big Time Hoops Spring Challenge was held Saturday and Sunday May 3rd and 4th in Tacoma, Washington under the direction of Garry Ward and the Northwest Panthers AAU program. Here is a report on the event on players who caught our eye as Division I level prospects. (We are only reporting on players we observed and evaluated.) Top Prospects: 64 G/W Brian Angola of Findlay Prep 2014 (Pac-West Select) Angola is a very intriguing prospect who caught scouts attention at this event. He shows the ability to play all three perimeter positions and is real athletic. Hes a confident ball handler and passer who sees the floor and is solid in the transition game. He moves well without the ball, can get to the basket on the drive and shoots it ok with 3 point range. Hes also a capable rebounder. Angola is a sure-fire mid level player who merits a look from high level schools. Hes one of the better available 2014 prospects in the west. 63 SF Nate Bradford of Roosevelt HS 2016 (All In One) Bradford is a versatile wing with nice athleticism. H can handle and pass it and shows some acceleration in transition. He can pull up ok in the half court, is an ok shooter with 3 range and is a solid driver with a good first step. Hes also a capable rebounder. Bradford projects to be an upper level low major prospect. 60 PG/SG David Crisp of Brewster Academy 2015 (Northwest Panthers 17) Crisp is a well-known high level prospect at this point. He is a strong and athletic combo guard who can really run. Hes a nice all-around scorer who plays with an attack mentality and gets a lot done in transition and in the half court. Crisp is a 2014 prospect out of Rainier Beach HS who has re-classified. He has committed to Washington. 61 SG/PG Seth Erickson of South Salem HS 2015 (Oregon Stars) Erickson was a very pleasant surprise from this event. Hes a deceptive athlete with some burst who finds a way to get to the basket on the drive consistently. He can elevate and finish with his left hand nicely. He pulls up in the half court and has a nice floater. Buy by far, his most impressive asset is his ability to shoot the ball with 3-point range. If you need a shooter go get this kid! Erickson is a hidden gem who will likely end up as a mid major prospect. 61 PG/SG Ferron Flavor of Federal Way HS 2016 (Team 5ive) Flavor is an athletic combo guard with real nice speed. He handles it well and finishes in transition. He shoots it ok and has 3-point range. He has a nice motor. Flavor looks to be a low major prospect. 63 PG Kyle Foreman of Bellevue HS 2015 (Emerald City 17) Foreman is a very efficient and effective point guard with a non-stop motor. He pushes the break very well and makes a ton plays in transition. His passing ability is a cut above and he sees the floor exceptionally well. He is a high-energy player who makes those around him better. Foreman is competitor who battles the whole way and is a very solid mid major prospect. 510 PG Connor Fohn of South Salem HS 2015 (Oregon Stars) Fohn was another pleasant surprise who is operating below the radar. He is strong-bodied, tough competitor who plays with a relentless motor. He is a pretty complete player who can handle, pass and shoot and make plays in transition. He is a good driver who finds a way to get to the hoop and is a hard-working defender. Fohn looks to be an upper level low major prospect. 63 SF Roberto Gitten of Foss HS 2017 (Northwest Panthers 16) Gitten is an athletic three man who can score in a number of different ways. He is a capable ball handler and passer who makes plays in transition, pulls up well in the half court and is a decent shooter with 3 point range. (He needs to show a little more consistency on his shot.) Hes a capable driver with a nice first step and can post up a little. Gitten is a bright young prospect with mid major potential. 66 SF Dominic Green of Hazen HS 2015 (Northwest Panthers 17) Hazen is fairly athletic wing with long arms who can run the floor. Hes an ok ball handler who can pull up in the half court. Hes a solid driver and a fairly good shooter with 3 range. Hazen lies somewhere in the low plus/mid minus range. 65 PG/SG Jermaine Haley of Burnaby South HS, Canada 2015 (Drive)- re classifying to 2016 Haley is a very impressive combo guard with nice skills and athleticism. He is a little slender and could use some bulk/strength. He is a gifted ball handler and passer who makes plays in transition and is best suited for an up-tempo style. He can get to the basket on the drive and finish, both on the break and in the half court. His main issue is asserting himself and being consistent. If those things happen, Haley is a high major prospect. (He does have high major interest.) He is re-classifying and has tentative plans to attend a basketball academy in Europe in the fall. 60 PG/SG David Jenkins of Wilson HS 2016 (Northwest 17) Jenkins really showed his prowess in this event and was one of the standout prospects in any class. He is real athletic with speed to burn and has nice quickness. He excels in transition, pulls up well in the half court and is a fairly good shooter with 3 point range. Hes also a solid defender and rebounder. Jenkins has high major potential. 68 C Matt Neufeld of Lambrick Park HS, Canada 2014 (Drive) - considering re-classifying to 2015 Neufeld is a skilled five-man with fairly long arms. He has good hands and usually plays with his hands up and does a nice job of keeping the ball high. Hes a good passer and he knows how to dribble operate on the block. Hes a decent post-up scorer. He could sue a little strength and development. At this point is a low plus prospect. He has Division I offers but is considering re-classifying in order to increase his stock. 61 PG/SG Darius Lu Bom of Kentwood HS 2017 (Northwest Panthers 16) Lu Bom is a strong and fairly athletic combo guard. He is a smooth ball handler and a real good passer who pushes the fast break consistently and can finish at the end of the break. He puylls up fairly well in the half court and is an effective driver/penetrator. Lu Bom is a Division I prospect with the ultimate level up in the air at this point. 64 G Isaiah Ugoalah of Winston Churchill HS, Canada 2017 (Drive 16) re-classified from 2016 Ugoalah is athletic guard with long arms who is a solid ball handler and a good passer. He finishes nicely in transition and can also pull up on the break. He is also a solid driver in the half court. Ugoalah projects to be a mid minus at this point. 61 G Jayson Williams of Curtis HS 2015 (Northwest Panthers 17) Williams is an impressive athlete who shows the ability to make his mark in the transition game, finishing very well. Hes a solid ball handler (and passer) who is a very good driver with the ability to use his left hand. He also has a nice hesitation move. He does need to prove himself as a perimeter shooter. Williams shows mid major potential but the only thing that is disappointing to basketball scouts is that he is also a football player...
