Reports have emerged about an Israeli attack which killed 10 Palestinians children playing in a ground on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. Most will consider this incident as a continuation of the current spate of violence inflicted by Israel on Gaza. Id say that the attack also has an important symbolic value. In 1973, a Arab alliance of Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on the day of Yom Kippur - the holiest day in Judaism, which coincidentally also fell in the month of Ramadan of that year. Todays assault is the symbolic payback of Yom Kippur. This is Israel putting its foot down and stamping its authority. This is their revenge. By attacking the Palestinians for the misadventures of the Arab nations, Israelis have yet again proved that they dont differentiate between Arab Muslims and will pick them off one by one if the time and the situation permit them. Yet there is no reaction from the Arabs, who think they are safely ensconced behind the aegis of US protection. In effect, they are like lambs to slaughter ... waiting for their turn. It all depends on the dynamics of geopolitics and expediency. The regimes that dont draw their power from within will fall with a snap of fingers from their protectors. The writing is on the wall and anybody can see that if they want to. This time no hashtag is required.
