Republican Growth Policies Have Failed Economist Menzie Chinn decided to check out whether conservative pro-growth policies adopted by several states in recent years actually led to higher growth than in other states that did not adopt more of those those Republican policies.The chart below shows the results. The vertical axis is the state rankings for economic growth (higher up = more growth), the horizontal axis is how closely aligned the state is with the ALEC-conservative agenda, (further out to right = less conservative policies). So if conservative policies were very conducive for growth, wed see a nice 45 degree line from the top left to bottom right. Instead, we see a line very slightly heading in the other direction. Chinn compared states scores on the ALEC-Laffer conservative ranking to actual growth in 2013-14 and looked for a trend. There wasnt one.
