Residents want justice after police brutality:: 14\07\2014 JOHANNESBURG – The community of Alexandra is demanding swift arrests be made after a 22-year-old woman was beaten to death, allegedly by police officers. Aphiwe Zweni was beaten last Wednesday while officers were apparently trying to get information from her about her boyfriend regarding a gun and stolen goods. The mother of one died in her home the following day. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating Zweni’s death and spokesperson Moses Dlamini says a probe is underway. “Immediately when we became aware of it, we sent out an investigator who is gathering information.” Police say a post-mortem will be conducted on the 22-year-old woman today. This is the latest incident involving alleged brutality by the police. Almost and a half year ago, Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia died in a police cell after being dragged behind a police van in Daveyton on the East Rand. Earlier this month the eight officers implicated in his death were fired. They were dismissed after a disciplinary hearing. ewn.co.za/2014/07/14/Residents-demand-justice-after-police-brutality-death?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
