Resolve crisis now, pry school head teachers urge FG, ASUU •Warn against granting autonomy to LGs Written by Clement Idoko -Abuja Tuesday, 03 September 2013 00:00 font раскрутка сайтов PRIMARY school head teachers in the country have asked the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve their differences in the interest of Nigerian students, who always bear the brunt of such feud. The head teachers under the auspices of the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), in a communiqué issued at the end of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Lokoja, Kogi State and made available to newsmen in Abuja, decried the protracted strike by the lecturers. Signed by its national president, Mr Lawal Mahmud and the national secretary, Mr Oluwole Adeola, the communiqué said, “NEC-in-session was unhappy about the long delay in the resolution of ASUU strike which is gradually paralysing the university system. “NEC, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to expedite actions, so as to resolve the issue, as the government was deeply involved in the agreement that brought about the strike.” The head teachers also warned against plan to grant full autonomy to local government areas, stressing that the position being canvassed by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) was fully supported by the association. NUT had strongly opposed the local government autonomy on the ground that leaving the management of primary schools to the councils alone would imperil the system and further impoverished the teachers in the sector. The communiqué read in part: “NEC-in-session took comprehensive reports from the states of the federation on the implementation of the new minimum wage and 27.5 per cent teachers’ peculiar allowance. “NEC was not happy at the ugly development of non-implementation of the agreement, which would not encourage teachers in the affected states to work conscientiously. “NEC, therefore, recommends strict implementation with immediate effect. “NEC-in-session also noted with serious concern the recommendation of an arm of the National Assembly to remove the issue of labour unions from the exclusive list to the concurrent list in the constitution. “NEC saw this as a deliberate attempt to further impoverish the Nigerian worker and brought him/her at the mercy of employers who are most interested in the produce rather than the producer.” модули joomla 2.5 Ofofo Tinz Slt Eksu
