Revelation Chapter 21 Commentary, by Walt Grace. Father in Heaven, please afford Your servant the wisdom to provide some encouragement in trying times. Weve all had trials in this life, Father, and You know our pain, but were never meant to have our best life now. Youve prepared a place for those who love You as said in John 14:3. Your servant looks forward to this moment with utmost fervor and dedication. This is truly a blessing for someone as unworthy as me and as we all are. Thank You and praises to You, Father, in Jesus name we pray, Amen. As written in the last chapter, even Terra Firma is a consumable, at this point it has lasted somewhere between 6,000 and 7,000 years. During this time it was made, cursed, polluted, judged and remade to its former splendor and beauty. Between 150 and 200 billion will have walked this planet by this time, many dying in their sins. However, a surprising number of people will be changed into glorified bodies to live in on the New Earth. Of course, the church and the Tribulation martyrs will already be in their new bodies at this point. Out of billions of those who lived during the Millennial Kingdom, there will be a great multitude ranging from children to men and women over a thousand years old. Yes, this is possible, if not for the free radicals that currently make it impossible to live much past 130 years in the best of circumstances. If could imagine, being over a millennium old, and being changed back to your mid-thirties, only better. Im in my mid-forties and live with chronic pain everyday. Because of my eyesight, I require strong prescription glasses for both distance and close up, and still need very bright lights to read in the course of my work and research. Im in good health, but time and the rigors of several decades of manual labor have taken their toll. We all know someone who is poor health or suffering from cancer, HIV, arthritis, hernias, back problems, dementia and a myriad of other problems. Ive known people who have lived into their 100s, and too many who have never seen 30. Even at 44, I can name more than a few friends born in the late 1960s and early 70 who have already passed from this life. In the new Heaven and Earth, there will be no sin and this means no decay. If you woke up in the morning and cut up an apple to eat for dinner, you would be able to enjoy that same apple decades later. It would never get old. People would never get old, suffer pain, or die here, EVER. There will no doctors offices, clinics, pharmacies, dentists chairs, arch supports, canes, walkers, prosthetics, splints, X Rays, MRI, or phrenology in this new Earth. What can anyone say? 21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (What did I say, no death and no crying; only joy!) 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (There will be no water shortages either. Some have compared this fountain to the Holy Spirit and who could blame them?) 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (The residents will be rich, making Bill Gates a pauper by comparison.) 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Those that died in their sins cannot and will not be here. They will be in eternal punishment.) 9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lambs wife. (Rather fitting that an angel charged with meting out such horrific judgments be able to introduce the bride of Christ to John.) 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, (Some say it is the city, but common sense must prevail. In Jewish tradition, the bridegroom prepared a place for the bride. This is the place that the Bridegroom, Christ Jesus prepared for the church and where the Church [Jews and Gentiles] will reside. This place has taken about 2000 years to build, but is well worth it as we shall see.) 11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. (1500 miles! This means that this city will have 12 floors each 125 miles high. There will be room for buildings 63,360 stories high with FIVE MILES to spare. By comparison, the tallest building to date, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is 163 stories high. If there are tall buildings in New Jerusalem, they will make the Buri like an anthill. 17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. (These will be 216 feet thick, which is 6 cubed; mans number and no more symbolic references to the Antichrist.) 18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. (The gold will be so pure you can see through it.) 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. (These are the stones the high priest would wear on his vestments.) 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. (Three gates on each side and probably big enough to drive a cargo ship through. Gold will be more plentiful than asphalt and no potholes.) 22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. (No need for a temple here.) 23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. (It doesnt necessarily mean there wont be a sun or moon, but the Lord will leave the light on in a big way.) 24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. (There will be nations, but no wars.) 25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. (No need for defenses, no guns, no armaments. No reason to EVER shut the gates to this city.) 26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lambs book of life. This last verse sums it up. Heaven is where Jesus is and you will not be able to imagine in your wildest dreams what the New Heavens and Earth will be like. Sadly, many will ignore this and continue in sin, and possibly face the Tribulation and die in said sins. The ending will be far more than you can imagine as well, but this will be as gruesome and as tormenting as Heaven will be for the believer. Please, do not delay your decision for Christ any longer. We are not guaranteed tomorrow; the time for salvation is today. Walt
