Revolution! Revolution!! Revolution!! Looms in Nigeria!!! As Nigerians hit the depth of disillusionment stemming from bad governance and corrupt leadership, in a country severely enmeshed in loads of tribulations, there have been recurring calls and yearning for a revolution. Many prominent persons have been calling for either militant or non-violent revolution, advocating it as the only way out of Nigeria’s politico-economic log-jam. This revolution as frequently predicted, will no less gruesome and ruinous because of widespread resentment campaigned to radically fragment the nation along ethnic divides to dethrone the adamant oligarchic cabals that have refused to learn lessons from past mistakes and continue to take the commoners for a ride. Since inauguration of the 4th Republic, spates of anti-government violence have reached a crescendo because of agonizing public policies that negatively impact the people’s lives. Such massive hostilities in various parts of the country depicts the anger of a people simmering below the surface for so long, that may suddenly explode into the streets of the towns and cities if due caution is not sustained. Nigeria appears poised to join many other countries where the masses have effectively overthrown rotten regimes that only serve the interest of the rich. Event with the ceaseless criticisms, the people have not been properly organized by trade unions and civil society groups is now very rife to suddenly return Nigeria to Thomas Hobbes’s “State of Nature” to make new social contracts. Among prominent Nigerians that have lent voice to the earnestness of this Nigerian revolution in recent times is the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria (Dr. Ola Makinde); reportedly quoted of cautioning against the widening gap between the rich and the poor that might instigate a revolution in Nigeria. The eminent cleric reportedly issued the statement of warning that: “In Nigeria, the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer. What are we doing about it? There may be a revolution in Nigeria if we are not careful. “The issue of graduate unemployment is another. It has led to an increase in robbery and other social vices.” How long shall we stand aside and watch while reckless and insensitive elite class rob us?
