Richard James Young November 17, 1941 ~ September 20, 2013 "To Know Him Was to Love Him." Richard James Young passed away peacefully in his home on Camano Island surrounded by his beloved wife Fatima and others who loved him. Born in Colville, Washington to Richard and Mildred Young, he is survived by his wife, Fatima; his children, Robert Young of Santa Barbara, CA, David Young of Raleigh, NC, Stephen Young of Springfield, VT; his siblings Jeanne Yoder of Fairbanks, AK, Virginia Roberts of Anchorage, AK, and Phillip Young of Anchorage, AK; nephews and nieces Kristina Bell of Fairbanks, AK, Jason Young of Camano Island, WA, Jaime Thurman of Wasilla, AK, Scott Roberts of Bakersfield, CA, and David Luna of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren Keegan and Garnet Young of Springfield, VT; plus a myriad of wonderful friends worldwide. Richard’s English humor, kindness, generosity, and deep love of life and possibilities endeared him to many. He brought peace and joy wherever he was. He strove to improve himself, the world, and help others always. He had his own quiet, logical way of seeing what must be done and he improved everything he touched. Richard had diverse interests which included: restoring vintage boats, outboard motors and antique radios. He enjoyed tennis, dancing, and marshal arts. He was a voracious reader of non fiction and loved flying, travel and most of all…the blues. After attending High School in Seattle, Richard graduated from Falls Church High School in Virginia. First studying at George Washington University, he received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma City College and his MBA from WesternWashington University. His work ranged from the National Weather Service on Barter Island, AK to a long and successful career with the Federal Aviation Administration. In later years, he joined the Poulsbo Yacht Club and enjoyed the company of fellow sailors and the cruising life on his trawler. Richard believed in the future and that the future could be more wonderful than the past. He was honest, brave and stoic until the end. He will sorely be missed.
