Smith, host of EPSN’s “First Take”, came under fire last week when he cautioned women against doing “anything to provoke wrong actions” while discussing Ray Rice’s two game suspension for domestic violence. His comments instantly created a firestorm of criticism from viewers and even some female ESPN reporters. ESPN reporter Michelle Beadle took him to task on Twitter, saying, in part, Im thinking about wearing a miniskirt this weekend...Id hate to think what Id be asking for by doing so @stephenasmith. #dontprovoke.” She also called his remarks “irresponsible and disgusting.” On Monday, Smith opened the show with a recorded apology for his remarks stating, “On Friday, speaking right here on ‘First Take’ on the subject of domestic violence, I made what can only amount to the most egregious error of my career.
