Jamie Carragher says a Liverpool win against Manchester City - TopicsExpress

Jamie Carragher says a Liverpool win against Manchester City on Sunday would give the club and fans a massive lift on a poignant day marking the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. The 96 Liverpool fans that lost their lives will be commemorated across the country this weekend, with every Premier League, Football League, Conference and FA Cup semi-final match kicking-off seven minutes later than usual. Liverpool won their 18th and last league title in 1990, a year after the disaster, and Carragher says Premier League glory this season could be the catalyst for the club to return to the heights of their past success. Jamie Carragher says: If Liverpool get the result it will be a great day for the club and the city and also the 96 and their families. Its a big day for them as well and we should never forget that. A couple of days after it will be the 25 year Hillsborough memorial service and there would be no better way than for the club and the players to say their thank you - that would give everyone a massive lift - . If Liverpool went on to win this title it would be huge because weve waited so long. When I was a player the talk was always about the title. We won the Champions League and got to another final but you still always felt that if you gave the supporters the option theyd probably take the league, even though the Champions League is a bigger trophy to win. From the supporters view of the club its always been about the title. They were brought up on winning it year-in, year-out. Man. United went a long time without winning it, won one and it just went on from there to 20 years of domination. If Liverpool can just get that one hopefully we can get back to the days of the 1970s and 80s. Carragher believes that while this weekends result will give us a title favourite, Chelsea still have a say in who is crowned 2013/14 Premier League winners. Carragher said: I think this game could settle the title race but Chelsea do have a little say in it with them coming to Anfield. If City win its going to be difficult for anyone else. If Liverpool win, Chelsea have still got to come to Anfield and if City beat Liverpool and Chelsea win later on Sunday against Swansea theyd be right back in it as well. Chelsea have got a big say in the title because they play Liverpool. Jose Mourinho doesnt lose many big games so that game between Chelsea and Liverpool is going to be difficult for both sides. I do think that if City win its going to be difficult for Liverpool to catch them but whoever wins this game will become favourites for the title. #YNWA
