Riverside FCs last group game in the Escombe Tournament was played - TopicsExpress

Riverside FCs last group game in the Escombe Tournament was played last night in wet and rainy conditions against Forest Hills FC. With both our teams safely in the semi finals of the tournament, it was just a matter of positioning on the group and which teams we will face in the semi finals. The Reserves kicked off first looking to bounce back after Saturdays loss to Villa Park. The first half was an end to end affair. The pitch was a bit soft and many players losing their balance making interplay very difficult. The halftime score was 0-0 but the overall play was really good from us and coach Marlan Maistry was happy with proceedings. At halftime, 2 changes were made and the difference was immediate as Ray Barber was perfectly positioned after a cross from Avinash Heeraman was not dealt with properly by the keeper and Ray was there to head in at the back post. Ray bagged his second on the night when he picked up the ball in midfield and ran on to slot home. Was a fantastic performance all round and the game ended 2-0. The Reserves ended top of the group with 9 points from 4 games scoring 8 goals. Ray top scoring so far with 4 goals in 3 starts. The First Team was on straight after were the talk of the tournament so far. Forest Hills needed the win last night to ensure their spot in the semi finals. The game was off and within minutes, Forest took the lead. More of the same followed through the half as the Forest strikers were relentless in their attack and at halftime, we were 4-0 down. Coach Enzo Coppola reminded the lads of their responsibilities at halftime and we showed much more resolve in the second half. Forest managed to bag 1 more to make it 5-0. About 15 minutes before the final whistle, we got a penalty when Fire Mwala was brought down in the box and he subsequently stepped up to convert. Final score 5-1 to Forest. The First Team still maintained the number 1 spot with 7 points from 4 games and scoring 6 goals thus far. Both teams will be in action on Friday night in their Respective Semi Final clashes playing the second place teams in Group 1. The Reserves will be up against Escombe FC and the First Team will play Villa Park FC. Games kick off at 18:30 and 20:00. Hope to see all of you there to support us. We will keep you updated on those results as promptly as possibly as the Finals will be played on Saturday afternoon.
