Robert S. Miller III, have you ever been to Musée dArt et dHistoire in Neuchâtel, Switzerland? I have not and now I am wishing I had when I competed in the world championships in Bern Switzerland. I have been reading about a robot of sorts that is currently on display there. Even though we think they were only born in the 20th century, the first were actually created even hundreds of years ago, and were called - automatons. It was in 1770s that this amazing writing automaton was created. Shaped like a small boy, it is able to write , the text programmable, in an elegant cursive script, using a goose quill. In order for it to know what to write, users need to use dials embedded in its back. The attention to detail in this is truly extraordinary; it refills the pen and shakes the quill, moves the page and moves its eyes to track what it is writing. This is truly one of the great works of mechanical computation. The automaton, along with his other works, are currently on display at the Musée dArt et dHistoire in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. https://youtube/watch?v=opkNdtT8ALo
