Robin Williams won an oscar for best supporting actor for Good - TopicsExpress

Robin Williams won an oscar for best supporting actor for Good Will Hunting. Despite that, a lot of people I respect dont list it when they mention what they consider his best work. I remember heatedly debating with people at the time who considered it a predictable movie, that you know where it is going to end up. My reply at the time was that sometimes it was ok for you to know where your journey is going to end, that it isnt always about the destination, sometimes its about the journey itself, the people you travel with and the route you take. It was a very personal movie for me because the journey Matt Damons character took was one with which I was familiar. Michael Raymen and I saw that movie together in NYC. As we left the theater talking about what we thought, I mentioned the part where Robin Williams therapist character was telling Matt Damon (in relation to having been an abused child), its not your fault, its not your fault, its not your fault. As I tried to repeat that scene to Michael, I could not talk, I literally could not speak for about five minutes. I have tears running down my face now just thinking about it. Im not going to say that that was a turning point in my life, that everything turned around after that, life isnt like that, at least not as I have experienced it. But it was a revelation, a little insight that maybe some things still had a grip on me that I had thought past me. Perhaps the movie wrapped things up a little too quickly, movies are like that. But anyone, anything that gives me a moment like that, has a special place in my heart forever. I dont know the demons that Robin WIlliams faced himself, apparently they were too much in the end. But for the laughter that he gave so many for so long, and the little piece of me that he gave back, I am forever grateful. I believe in an afterlife, I hope that he is there finding the peace that eluded him.
