Roy Powell 21 hours ago As all of you know I don’t face book much, but I need to vent so please bear with me. I have always believed in OUR judicial system. I know it was made up of humans, so mistakes could and did happen, but things got worked out, the bad guys went to jail and the good guys did not. This last week, I have been witness to a very large miscarriage of justice and my faith in our system has been shaken. A judge who was NOT impartial, a prosecutor who talked about “facts” not in evidence, a defense attorney hamstrung by the judge and unable to introduce evidence to show the defendant was being unjustly prosecuted. A much respected pillar of our community was chastised twice by the judge for being a ‘southern gentleman’, because he opened a door for some ladies and did not get up and leave when a lady sat next to him in the hall. A retired ‘officer of the court’ (law enforcement/investigator) treated as if he was a lair on the witness stand and the judge overruling the defense attorney’s objections to this treatment. DHR’s documentation shows them, DHR as party to this kangaroo court too, it was recommended by the case worker not to charge him, but to charge the parents with child abuse. But a supervisor, after be threatened with a federal law suit, from the parents for harassment, decided NOT to charge the parents but our friend. Jurors being overheard saying this man was guilty BEFORE the trial was even half over. Dian and I both believe an innocent man may spend 15 to 60 years in prison for something he did not do. If we believed, or had any doubts, he was guilty he would not have been around our grandchildren, nor still in the fire department. If I believed he was guilty I told him, he would be a gelding now. Please pray for this man, he is not family but as the song tells if you need him at 3 in the morning, he would come running and not ask any questions. Thanks Roy
