Runner Profile: Joel Mattocks If you blink, you may miss him. That is because Joel Mattocks is a member of TEAM RAGS, the winning team for the Run For The Heroes – Run Across Georgia 2013. Their time last year was an astonishing 30 hours 56 minutes and, from what we understand, they are going for the course record in 2014. Joel, who began running only four years ago, lives in Phenix City, is married to his wife Kyndall and they have two sons, Seth and Allen. He is the plant manager at ICForm where they manufacture insulated concrete forms for construction. He said his most memorable moments of the 2013 RFTH-RAG are all of the fun times he and his team had at the transition points along the route. Apparently, there were reports throughout the state of dancing, singing, Frisbee throwing, and cheering for all of the other teams by TEAM RAGS. Another memorable moment (as shown in the picture) was a time of prayer with an older gentleman they met at breakfast prior to starting the run last year. Joel, who is not particular about his running location, prefers to run in the afternoon as an opportunity to take his mind off of everything. He also loves to run as it allows him to be competitive with himself by trying to get better and faster. What most people do not know is that Joel began running as a result of shattering his ankle while playing soccer. Following the surgery, rehab, and recovery, he weighed 210lbs and decided it was time to lose the weight. The rest is history. Please take an opportunity to give Joel and TEAM RAGS your best wishes as they prepare to try to break the course record. Big Dog Running Company House of Heroes, Inc.
