Russian troops arriving in Belarus for Zapad 2013 exercise. The first trainload of Russian troops has arrived in Belarus for taking part in the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2013 (West 2013), representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA. According to the source, the first train carrying Russian military personnel and hardware arrived at Ozerishche Station in Minsk on 3 September for the sake of taking part in the joint strategic exercise Zapad 2013. The troops will work together with Belarusian military to deploy the system to manage the forthcoming exercise as the final preparations for the exercise, BelTA has been told. The Belarusian Defense Ministry noted that the Zapad 2013 exercise is a logical continuation of the exercises staged in the last few years and is designed to test the operation of the joint defense system of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the capability of the system to achieve national and regional security goals.
