The host team has already claimed the Athletics title after sweeping through all but one of the podium places in cross country races staged at the Kahawa Barracks, and attention has now shifted to handball, football, netball and basketball disciplines. At the Nyayo Stadium, Kenya easily defeated Rwanda 46-31 in a fairly straight forward handball contest to remain unbeaten in the discipline having won all their three games played so far. Sit pretty at the top of the table Paul Ngei with 10 points and Nicholas Ireri (eight) masterminded the win for the home team against the hard-fighting Rwandans. “This result ensures Kenya remains unbeaten in the competition this far, following earlier wins over Tanzania and Burundi at the same venue.” In Basketball, Ulinzi Warriors’ 68-57 win over Uganda in an entertaining contest played at the Kasarani gymnasium maintained the host team’s 100 per cent record in the competition. Burundi beat Rwanda 67-55 in the other game of the day played at the same venue. “Rwanda need to be more aggressive if they harbour any hopes of winning the tournament,” said Nelson Odera, an ardent basketball fan. Kenya has already defeated Burundi 70-69, and Rwanda 73-72 to retain their grip at the top of the table standings.
