Ryan Mallett Trade Could Be Great News For Cleveland.. There is no secret on the fact that Houston Texans are in the market for a new quarterback. One avenue that had been explored was cut off late last week when Matt Cassel opted to renew his relationship with the Vikings. With slim pickings available in the Free Agency market this year, rumours of a trade have been growing and New England’s Ryan Mallett has been increasingly linked with a move to Texas. While this move could work out well for the Texans, it may also have benefits for other quarterback needy teams in the first round of the draft. Houston would, more than likely, have to give up their second round pick for Mallett but this would leave them free to select Jadeveon Clowney with the first overall pick and add him to J.J. Watt to create a dual threat pass rush that would cause plenty of problems for sides around the league. Both Jacksonville and Cleveland will be watching the continuing quarterback situation in Houston with interest, as it could impact on their chances of being successful in securing their draft day needs. Although Jacksonville have resigned Chad Henne, this is unlikely to affect their need to pick up a new quarterback in the draft and, if Houston and St Louis keep their selections, the Jaguars could have their pick of all the options when they select third overall. More importantly, the Browns could be faced with the scenario of having just one of the main quarterback options selected when they are on the clock with the fourth pick. Initial thoughts suggested Cleveland may have to surrender their second first round pick to be able to trade up with St Louis to secure their chosen signal caller. Mallett’s potential arrival in Houston would change that and enable the Browns to stay put and still be in a position to select a potential franchise calibre quarterback with the fourth pick Mallett would still be a gamble for the Texans, but with the likes of Teddy Bridgewater, Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel all carrying question marks over them when entering the draft he may be less of a risk than reaching with a pick instead of taking the great value that is available in Clowney. But if the Browns can select their quarterback and hold on to both picks in the first round then they will be in a great position to use this draft to build on the likes of Josh Gordon and start to create a team that can make an impact in the AFC North. Sometimes deals can actually work out better for a third party; this could well be the case with any move involving Mallett and Houston. Time will tell!
