S thought: TRC Edmonton Event 2014...is true education at its best. Over the last four days many truths of darkness, many silence does not help forget moments have transpired. Many many generations of First Nation, Inuit and Metis peoples of e-kanâta (this is a clean place) were exposed to the genocidal treatment at the hands of those who followed the mandate kill the indian in the child introduced by the John A. MacDonalds vision of civilizing the savage to meet their vision of this new Canada. For over 130 years attempted genocidal destruction toward inherent identity was conducted. Today the door to truth remains open with the attempt to educate both Canadians and First Nations People (the new generations) of the ugly history that exists on this land. Today allows for healing, today allows for growth, today allows for decolonzation, today allows for educating all, today allows for cultural continuance. There can be so much said and discussed about the dark history that so many try to sweep under the rug, but today we first need to listen to the stories...first hand accounts help create an understanding to truth. Once understanding happens then we can proceed forward with clear direction as to what needs to be done for the generations coming and still to come. Education is the perfect avenue to create understanding. Whatever province that has its borders on Treaty Territory there exists an education system, a system that should mandate First Nation History Treaty Education a mandatory core subject for every provincial school across this land...these political organizations has the means to make this so. Our First Nations must also strive to educate our people of the histories that we are a part of; a major part! Weve lost so much as a people...identity, connection, language, culture and spirituality...now we can rebuild; rebuild for a strong, proud tomorrow. Our children are leaders of tomorrow...they deserve their first languages, spirituality and learning (both First Nation and western) lodges, we have the means to do so. We continue to pray for, honour, respect for all those who have left before us...this is our duty. We continue to pray for, honour, respect all those who are still with us...this is our duty. We continue to pray for, honour amd respect all those who are still yet to arrive...this is our duty. TRC 2014 was indeed a very powerful experience for everyone. To the survivors...ahkamamohk, for the lost ones...kawanikiskisik ayisiniwak...for the children...kakesimok ôhci wiyawaw. As a second generation survivor the experiences have been plenty but knowledge has come to assist in what we have to do for the future. Ekosi pihta...meyo kisikansik
