SALARY NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE COMPILED FOR THE VICTORIA DSRA/ - TopicsExpress

SALARY NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE COMPILED FOR THE VICTORIA DSRA/ NOVEMBER 10, 2014 Today the 2nd VP gave an update to the Victoria DSRA The following is based on what he said and my knowledge of the PROCESS: Proposals for non salary items were submitted in 2013 as the Negotiating team then agreed that because of the “cap” of the salary of the CEO, it would not have been wise to submit salary proposals at the time because there was not much room for salary negotiations. Earlier this year the SRC’s proposals were accepted by Cabinet and the ‘cap” of the CEO went to $30 400. The negotiating team submitted salary proposals to the General Council in February 2014 and negotiations began for this in March based on the agreement signed after the last salary negotiations. We are aware that a subcommittee was formed to work on the comparators and agreement was reached after many months. I compiled the following to assist us. Hope it gives an idea of what is happening. As it is now, agreement was arrived at on full market salaries for Grades1-8. Discussions will take place to determine the methodology to be used to determine the actual salaries for the 2011 – 2014 period. The salaries will have to be determined based on the Salary Cap which is limited by the differential between the Highest Salary in grade 8 and that of the CEO which is $30,340. Between Grade 8 and the CEO there are 5 additional Grades which must be catered for. The other challenge at present is to obtain adequate salaries while maintaining as far as is reasonably possible an acceptable salary structure that is the differential between, in particular Grade 3 and Grade 4 and to a lesser extent between all grades. This therefore means that agreement is also to be reached on both intergrade and intragrade differentials. In the previous negotiations a 6% intergrade overlap was agreed to. For the last 3 sessions, not much movement was gained, but the team is focusing on the methodology There is still a lot of work to be done and teachers must be prepared to fight for the closure that we deserve. Intergrade – within the structure, eg. Grade 2, 3, 4, etc. Intragrade - within the grade, eg. Within Grade 4 there are A, B, C, D, E., F etc.
