SAR Mission- On July 4th at appx. 7:20 pm, CCRS received a call from 911 regarding a lost hiker. It was a 30’s male hiking alone. He was unaware of his location other than a high ridge facing west. We were able to do a preliminary pinpoint on his location based on info received from 911 and head out. Upon sending and receiving texts with the hiker, we were able to determine that his location sounded like an accurate description of the area we believed him to be in. He was in no immediate danger medically and stated he was lost and suffering from exhaustion and leg cramps. We went towards the Odom Point area by 4 wheeler part of the way and hiking the rest. He had arrived at this location from Turnipseed Camp area based on info given. We were proceeding at a safe and steady speed for our guys during the rescue due to the fact we had spoken with the hiker and knew he was OK physically and mentally. We do not put unnecessary risk to our guys when it is not needed. Especially since this was a very steep and difficult area to arrive to. It was uphill at a very steep grade going in. We arrived to the subject by appx 10pm and were back out of the woods by 1130pm. Everyone was off the mountain and back in service by midnight. We always appreciate the County’s support and prayers during these events. Without going into details, there are many bad things that can happen hiking, especially off-trail at night, that can turn our non-event into a very dangerous and life-threatening situation. Thank you to all the members of CCRS, and other agencies locally, that responded to help. -B
