SCARE TACTIC What would happen if every time a child came to their dad or mother, the parent would say I wish you were taller, smarter, prettier in fact I don’t really like you as you are and I just wish you could be improved, somehow? So after a while of feeling like you don’t measure up to your parent’s expectations you began to think, what’s the use? I will never be able to please this parent. I think a lot of people give up on serving God because they feel they can never please Him. Someone says, well the Bible says to fear the Lord but how can you love someone you are afraid of. The scare tactic is a control method to make people do what you want them too. Historically at the beginning of the Common Era everything was either God or the devil. God’s Will was dictated by the Church. With no distribution of the Bible to the common man the interpretation of God’s Will was left up to the clergy. Then corruption entered the hierarchy of the church and the people began to create a different world view. With the invention of the printing press and the circulation of the Bible, men and women began to think for themselves. However, that old fear tactic; if you don’t do right God will get you, is still common in much of the preaching and teaching today. I remember the words of Jesus; suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the kingdom of God. Those children were not afraid of Him but felt free to come to him at any time because they were always welcome. Make no mistake our heavenly Father loves all of us with the kind of love that tells us we can come to him at any time without fear of some kind of punishment. He loves us as we are, that’s “GRACE.” Note: As far as improvement, yes, most of the time we improve when we know we are LOVED. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has torment, and he that fears has not been made perfect in love. (1n JO: 4:18)
