SGA Meeting March 18th Guest Speakers: Staff from REC Center to address some questions and concerns students may have. They are about working with students to make the REC center safe for the students, but also as comfortable as possible. If theres anything they wont allow, they do their best to provide alternatives. If you have any REC center oriented suggestions or issues, let them know, they are more than happy to talk and work something out. Issues brought up: Why cant we wear hats/scarves? The cameras installed are ~10ft high so its hard to identify those who are covering their heads, it blocks the angle that the camera can see, so safety becomes a concern. Scarves are okay. Why does the REC center close early on short notice at times? There are times when there are no students within the REC for 3+ hours, which boils down to keeping the lights on being expensive and it is also understaffed at times when multiple students call in and cant make their shift. REC faculty cannot force them to come in. Looking into extending REC opening hours for maybe 2 days per week. It depends on if itll cost too much and if people are willing to do late shifts, as well how many students would be in the REC at those late hours etc. Students with short shorts are not being asked to leave at times even though I was, why is this not strictly enforce? Because of the ambiguity of the rules at first, many students had already bought shorts they thought were correct, and because it was not strictly enforced, the culture within the REC based around that issue had already been established. When the faculty started to strictly enforce it, there was a great negative backlash, so now the faculty are trying to think of solutions for this. One solution was to wear a covering under the shorts. The main concern is covering as much skin as possible to avoid contact with the machines. Some students may not wipe down the machines. In the unfortunate event that there happens to be MRSA/staph on the machines, the situation would be dire, and the first group that would be contacted about the problem would be the REC center. Thats why precautions must be taken. They are open to suggestions. Safe ride program A way in which students can be provided with a way to safely return to campus. Particularly in the case that they may be drinking and drank a little bit more than they should have etc. Charging stations will be coming soon to the lobby (upstairs and downstairs) Open forum: Where issues students may have are brought up. Theres a study room in phase 4, why cant the other phases have one too? Even though phase 4 is designated as the scholar phase is shouldnt be the only one with a study room. Potholes between phase 4 & 5 possibly other phases too. When students have programs they are setting up, but cant park in the senior parking lot (Setzer parking lot) without getting a ticket. Could a temporary parking pass system be implemented (Something along those lines). Announcements: Meet and Greet Family Feud Night, Would any organizations like to host this event?
