SHELBY CO. CHIEF DEPUTY ATTENDS SIGNING OF MILITARY SACRIFICE LICENSE PLATE LEGISLATION SIGNED BY GOV. KASICH SHELBY Co.--- On December 18, 2014 Chief Deputy Frye attended a Bill singing at the Ohio State Capital building. A Ceremonial Signing by Governor John Kasich was held at the Ohio State Capital, where the Governor signed Amended House Bill 45, which Chief Deputy Frye was invited to attend. House Bill 45 was a standalone bill, which enacts Ohio Revised Code section 4503.549 to create “Military Sacrifice” license plates. Military Sacrifice plates are for any member of the immediate family of a person who died outside a combat zone while serving honorably as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States. In addition to the letters and numbers ordinarily inscribed on the Ohio license plates, “Military Sacrifice” license plates shall be inscribed with a distinctive emblem and the words “Military Sacrifice”. House Bill 45 took almost five years to get passed through the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill was originally introduced by the late Rep. Michael Debose and was subsequently introduced by Representative Terry Johnson. Dick Stobbs, Chairman of the Gold Star Family Committee was instrumental in seeing that the bill continued to get consideration for passage. Along with the Gold Star Family Committee, also involved with support for the bill were the Blue Star Mom’s, Ohio Patriot Guard, Ret. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn L. Stratton, 12 District Ohio State Senator Keith Faber and other parties interested in getting the bill passed through and onto the Governor. Chief Deputy Frye attended on behalf of being a survivor of a military member who died while serving in the armed forces. Frye’s father Raymond C. Frye Jr. was killed on November 11, 1964 while serving with the United States Coast Guard; Frye’s father’s remains were never recovered. Frye stated “it was an honor and a privilege to be present for the passage of this bill”; “it allows us to honor our fallen and to display our pride for the sacrifices our loved ones have given to our Country”.
