SHHT SUPPORTS NO DEMOLITION GROUP IN LIMASSOL (CYPRUS): The aim of the group NO DEMOLITION is to unite anyone who disagrees with the demolition of the first example of Social Housing built in Limassol in 1948. A great part of the complex has already been demolished over the past few years. The Group now wants to stand up and prevent cancelling of this important part of our city forever. The complex of housing was designed after the WWII for poor people that were moving from the surrounding villages into the city in very rough conditions, to work in the industries nearby the Limassol port. The concept of the these houses was to offer an independent, respectful and hygienic space for living equally and to everyone in need. It is worth mentioning that the project has not only respected the budget approved at the time, but it has also saved money which was then used to build other housing, establishing in this way the importance of the well living and being. The complex offered homes to over 250 people at the time. Our group NO DEMOLITION envisions to give life back to these houses and to give houses back to the people of Limassol, in any way possible, conserving all the layers of history that have shaped our city, during past and for the future.
