SIR EMEKA OFFOR BECAME THE HIGHEST DONOR IN AFRICA. The Rotary International believes that all it takes to change the world, is dedication to service above self and that is the mind set of its over 1.2 million members that make up the 34,000 rotary clubs in virtually every country worldwide; selfless service, is the underlining trait of the rotary international. Sir Emeka Offor a notable Nigerian business man and a renowned member of the Rotary International club, has contributed over $1,000,000 to the Rotary International, in support of their global humanitarian endeavors. His donations make him the largest contributor from Africa in Rotary’s 108 year history. It is in line with this highly philanthropic gestures, regard for all humans and the constant yearning to alleviate the suffering of people worldwide, that he is being honored with the highest Rotary Award at the 2013 Rotary International Convention, come June 25th 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal, themed “Lisbon – A harbor for Peace”. Rotary’s highest honor for an individual Rotarian is the ‘Service Above Self Award’ and this is what is being awarded to our illustrious business mogul, a true son of the Nigerian soil. He reiterates to anyone who cares to listen, and I quote, “God has been so good to me and as a result of that, I love to give back as often and as a much as I can”. In February 2013, Sir Offor contributed $250,000 in support of Rotary initiatives to enhance child and maternal health, and another $250,000 for education and literacy projects. In 2012, he contributed a total of $500,000 to the Rotary Peace Centers, pledging his support for Rotary’s polio eradication initiative. Sir Offor also supports the Rotary’s Annual Fund, and gives significant sums to even local Rotary projects in Nigeria. During Rotary International’s centennial celebration in Chicago USA, the rotary Foundation trustees sought a meaningful way to recognize the Foundation’s highest-level donors. The ARCH C. KLUMPH SOCIETY members are amongst the Rotary Foundations top innovators; they are key supporters of the Foundation, and their involvement is vital to its work and overall progress. To attain that position in the rotary society, a donor’s cumulative contributions must amount to $250, 000 or surpass it. Sir Emeka Offor is a member of the society and is going to be awarded during the Arch C. Klumph Society (AKS) dinner as the highest donor to the foundation from Africa.
