SO VERY PROUD OF MY CONGRESSMAN Many of you may remember Florida Democratic candidate for Congress Patrick Murphy as the young underdog who defeated Tea Party radical Alan West in the FL18 2012 general election. And while most of my friends across the country supported candidate Murphy because of his support for the Middle Class or for womens rights, immigrant rights or LGBT rights, many of my friends growing up in my home district were split politically. Half of us supported him for all of the reasons above, but the other half supported Alan West because theres been a false perception that the Republican Party was looking out for our best interests -- even though they werent. One of the issues that unites both Democrats and Republicans in the area, though, is that our intercoastal rivers have become toxic because of the rerouting years ago of drain water that used to flow from Lake Okeechobee into the Everglades, which now flows into our rivers. Its been destroying the ecosystem in the area for years and years. And for years our local communities have appealed to our Republican controlled leadership to fix the problem, even though theyve given us nothing but lip service about fixing the problem. Well, today Rep. Murphy got President Obama to step in and make saving our rivers a national priority! And if we can stop the Republicans in Congress from screwing over the people of the Treasure Coast, well finally begin the process of fixing this serious problem for our area. All this out of a freshman member of the minority party of the House. Few outside the Halls of Congress or the K Street lobbying corridor of Washington, DC could ever fathom how incredible an accomplishment this is for a freshman congressperson. Im honestly in awe ... and hope you are as well. WOW.
