SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT! New twist on an old saying I was just thinking about that saying: Only the good die young well I think it is equally useable in the reverse. Consider the most common interpretation of the original statement. It seems as if the people most deserving a long and prosperous life seem to never enjoy one. While the dirtbags life expectancy (that by virtue of a corrupted lifestyle) should be killed off earlier. Now consider the reverse. ONLY THE YOUNG DIE GOOD! Not exactly good English but it gets the point across. I say that more times than not when a person dies at a young age and way before the typical lifetime expectancy. Its because of some extraordinary or unexpected cause. I will explain. A 19 year-old soldier throwing him/herself onto a grenade to save their buddys. Or an actor whos career is on the cusp of greatness rolls the Porsche spider theyre driving into a tree. And lastly an extraordinarily talented but emotionally troubled poet commits suicide. Are all good ways to die. Not in the sense that any death can truly be described as a good thing (especially to the one doing it). But in the sense that it also seems to me that the majority of all those Methuselah-like miscreants tend to check out (when they finally do) in some less than desirable or undignified manner. For example. That corrupt billionaire oil baron has a massive stroke while engorging himself on pounds of $300 an ounce caviar in spite of the fact they loathe caviar (he just likes showing others that he CAN do something on a whim they will never do once). Additionally do to their unnaturally expanded lifetime has so weakened their constitution that fecal matter erupts from their belly button spaying it in his chest and face thus is this image forever seared into our collective memories. Or the aged Washington beltway ultra-conservative politician just re-elected to his 32 and legacy defining final term is caught on camera molesting catatonic adolescent conjoined twin boys dressed like Lady Gaga forcing his televised resignation in utter humiliation. So the young die in a manner people may remember as a good way to go rather than the negatively slewed way the bad die off. Wow that was painfully long to type. But I hope you get my point.
