SPARE THE ROD AND SPOIL THE CHILD By Roy E. Peterson (Copyright © April 20, 2013) Discipline we had in school. Sprinkle in the Gold Rule. Reward the good and punish bad; Discipline is what we had. Now discipline is hard to find. Why do we think the kids won’t mind? Express themselves? Let them run wild? Spare the rod and spoil the child. I’m not talking slap or beating; Readjustment of their seating. Spank them hard and then be kind. A few good licks to their behind. Have to teach them right from wrong. Teach them how to get along. Teach them yes and teach them no. That’s the only way to go. Teach them there’s a consequence Proper justice then dispense. Here’s a way that now seems rad: Make them say, “I’m sorry, dad.” Our educations system’s broke. Discipline’s become a joke. I would rule with an iron hand. Discipline I would demand. Teach respect for God and country. Teach it to the children bluntly Teach the children to be mild, But spare the rod and spoil the child.
