SPC-FAME Mission Visiting Pohnpei State Kolonia, Pohnpei (October 31, 2013) - In response to a request by the FSM Department of Resources and Development, a mission from the SPC-Division of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (FAME) will be visiting Pohnpei to conduct a workshop for development of an over-arching aquaculture policy for the FSM. The said policy is likely to cover broad issues such as biodiversity and environment, capacity enhancement and aquatic bio-security, including other assistance and advice on evaluation and possible identification of aquaculture potentials and opportunities for the nation. Given that each of the states functions almost independently of each other and has control of their territorial waters, it is critical that Pohnpei holds its own workshop to produce an outcome that reflects the state’s context. The activities of the visiting mission would involve relevant stakeholder groups from Pohnpei. This workshop will be held at the Pohnpei State Governor’s Conference Room at Pehilapalap, Kolonia, on November 5 – 7, 2013. The following are the members of the visiting team: 1. Robert Jimmy, Aquaculture Adviser, SPC-Noumea 2. Simon Ellis, Consultant (freelance), SPC-MERIP 3. Valentin Martin, Program Manager, FSM-R&D Please welcome our visitors to our home and greet them with the common Pohnpeian courtesy.
