SPIKE UPDATE: Spike went to the vet today and had his blood panel done. He has Cushings. He is labeled as guarded due to his being in poor condition for so long. I am SO THANKFUL Heart To Heart Rescuerescued him and gave him a chance. Spike has a VERY LONG ROAD ahead of him and he is NOT out of the woods. He is in such bad shape that the vet agrees, holistic medication is the safest route. Spike is still taking thyroid medications and his thyroid level is good right now. Spike will be going to the vet every two weeks for level testing and we are all hoping that he pulls out of this with flying colors. His immune system is gone and ANY medications for Cushings other than the holistic method could kill him right now from the side effects. The vet and I are very hopeful and she said I am doing everything right. I do NOT let him go outside unless it is warm. He uses a litter box lined with newspaper. Because he has NO immune system right now, he cannot fight off any type of infections so it is crucial for me to keep him in a balanced climate and germ free. It has been really nice out in the afternoons so he does go outside for walks in his PJs. His teeth need a dental BAD, and his ears are packed with crud. I am flushing them twice daily. The vet said to continue flushing and said his ear canals are open, just full of crud. His teeth are the least of our concern at this time. The vet is more concerned with getting his Cushings under control without killing him in the process. Spike has a VERY LONG ROAD ahead of him. He is a sweetheart and the vet fell in love with him. He is VERY gentile and sweet. We both got teary eyed discussing his condition. Thank you everyone for donating and continuing to donate for his care. Please keep Spike in your prayers. He is NOT out of the woods yet. Just so happy we have a diagnosis and can proceed with the VERY LONG journey to health. Here are pictures of him at his afternoon walk and at the vet.
