SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH: TONY MANNING Tony was attempting to complete portions of a standardized test to determine his skill level as compared to his peers. This test is individually administered using goal directed activities to measure a wide spectrum of visual and motor skills. One portion of this test conducted at Hitchcock Healthcare includes Fine Manual Control to test coordination and control of distal musculature of the hands and fingers, especially for grasping, drawing, and writing skills. Manual Coordination is the second test, which looks at the coordination and control of the arms and hands, especially for object manipulation with a timed component in the Manual Dexterity subtest. The portion of the test (as shown in the pictures)-Upper Limb Coordination- was looking at visual tracking with coordinated arm and hand movements (Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-2nd Edition). This test was modified for Tony to help present him with just the right challenge. Tony is now able to coordinate his eyes and arms/hands to catch a tossed ball with both hands from 5-7 ft away!
