STAMPS ON LOCAL FRUITS Another BOO-BOO to the Malaysian Postal - TopicsExpress

STAMPS ON LOCAL FRUITS Another BOO-BOO to the Malaysian Postal Services(Pos Malaysia Bhd)..The latest issue on LOCAL FRUITS will be issued to restate and affirm that the people in the Stamp and Philatelic Division need to go back to school and learn what are truly local (Malaysian) fruits. The rock melon certainly is a foreigner! To promote this fruit as part of Visit Malaysia year is ludicrous as the locally grown cantaloupes or rock melon) vary so much in sweetness(and many times, they are just bland) that I wont buy a second time! Our weathetr(except the highlands) is just not the ideal for growing rock melons. To call this a local fruit will sure tickle blue the real claimants to the fruit! Here what Wikipedia says: The cantaloupe originated in Iran, India and Africa. It was first cultivated in Iran some 5000 years ago and in Greece and Egypt some 4000 years ago And it certainly is NOT a Malaysian fruit. Why not Duku, Langsat, Cempedak, Pulasan, Bacang, Kuini, (and the list goes on). Read this and have a good laugh.I shudder what they will issue next! So Pos Malaysia Bhd, please check your facts before committing another blunder,or we will all become a laughing stock! Read on: KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad, in collaboration with the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry, is to issue on Thursday special stamps depicting local fruits. Pos Malaysias Head of the Stamp and Philatelic Division Yasmin Ramli said the stamps promote four types of fruit, namely jackfruit in the 60 sen denomination; durian 80 sen; rock melon RM1.20 and star fruit RM1.40. This collection of stamps is very special and we hope it will help promote the fruits in the international arena in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 by way of this special issue, she told media at the press conference here. Yasmin said the first-day covers would contain a special description of the fruits, and that Pos Malaysia targeted to sell 35,000 copies. She said 610,000 of these special stamps had been printed. The special stamps and philately products can be obtained at all post offices in the country and selected stamp galleries or online via pos.my from 8.30am on July 17. – Bernama
