STATEMENT | Hegseth On Shinseki’s Resignation: This Is Only The Beginning: “We need both reform and a reformer.” Arlington, Va. – In an historic move, President Obama accepted the resignation of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Sec. Eric Shinseki, following evidence of widespread patient backlogs and alleged cover-ups by administrators throughout the VA healthcare system. Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) was the first veterans organization to call for Secretary Shinseki to step down, doing so over a year ago. CVA was recently joined by The American Legion—the nation’s largest veterans group—in calling for Shinseki’s resignation. Pete Hegseth, CEO of CVA, issued the following statement: “Concerned Veterans for America fully supports President Obama’s decision to accept Sec. Shinseki’s resignation. More importantly, we emphasize that it doesn’t solve the widespread, systemic problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs. In fact, this is only the beginning. We need both reforms and a reformer, which is why it’s essential for Congress to pass systemic reforms at VA in the coming weeks and months, bringing real accountability, transparency, and choice to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The government is failing our veterans, it’s time to get to work fixing VA.” ### Concerned Veterans for America is a non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)4 organization that advocates for policies that will preserve the freedom and liberty we and our families so proudly fought and sacrificed to defend.
